What is Aids?
- AIDS (Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome) is a disease characterized by the destruction of the human immune system. It stands today as a global epidemic, that originated in sub-Saharan Africa during the 2oth century. Although there are treatments to hinder the progress of AIDS, there is yet no known cure or vaccine.
- HIV can only be passed from person to person through body fluids, like blood, semen and vaginal fluid.
- By having unprotected sex with an infected person.
- By sharing needles and syringes for injecting drugs with an infected person.
- Children born to infected mothers can also become infected during pregnancy.
